You’ve got to learn how to dig deep…
I recently started reading the book How To Raise Your Own Salary.
The book is essentially a transcript of Napoleon Hill interviewing Andrew Carnegie about Carnegie’s Laws of Success.
Now, I’m sure you’re all familiar with Napoleon Hill and his infamous book Think and Grow Rich.
If not, Hill was one of the most prolific authors of the 20th century and has been credited as the founder of the Personal Development movement.
Think and Grow Rich is Hill’s flagship book that discusses the 17 Laws of Success and how to apply those laws to get anything you want in life.
A lesser known fact is that Napoleon Hill was tasked with putting laws together by one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of all time, Andrew Carnegie.
And, when you really study the interaction between Hill and Carnegie you find out that Carnegie is the creator of the laws and simply tasked Hill with synthesizing them into a palatable format that could be shared with the masses.
Carnegie said that his great wealth wasn’t the money he accumulated but the 17 laws and his definitive purpose of developing men.
“The money I possess came as a natural reward for the efforts I have put into developing men.” - Andrew Carnegie
Tasking Hill with writing a book on the subject was Carnegie’s way of continuing those efforts for generations to come.
And, while there are some very successful entrepreneurs who credit Think and Grow Rich with their success, the raw interview is much more powerful and provides even greater insights into the 17 laws than anything I’ve read before.
It’s kind of like drinking bottled water vs. drinking the water directly from the source. Although the water itself is the same, the richness of the water drunk straight from the spring is a completely different experience.
That’s why I’m such a big proponent of seeking out the source and learning from the source. It’s why I sought out Dr. Richard Bandler after reading Tony Robbins Awaken The Giant Within and why I’ve sought out these transcripts as opposed to just stopping with Think and Grow Rich.
When you learn from the source, you remove the layers of interpretation, and filters others have applied.
It’s where the true fount of knowledge exists.
So ask yourself, what’s a subject where you need to locate and learn from the source?
To your success,
Nate
