Over the past two emails (Reflections from Day 026 & 027), I’ve been reflecting on the process of iteration and adaptation, but there’s a third component that when added gives you the undeniable pathway to success.
Direction
Direction is defined as a course along which someone or something moves. It’s the missing link in our little triad and it’s the keystone that brings it all together.
Now, it’s important to point out that it’s different from a goal or an outcome as both of these have a fixed point or an achievement attached to them.
And, when you focus only on the achievement you risk not knowing what to do once you achieve the thing you’re after.
I’m sure you’ve heard of one or two athletes who’ve won the Super Bowl or the Veteran after their service, who’s lives seem to fall apart because they feel they have nothing to live for.
Now that they’ve accomplished their goal, what else is there?
Who knows, maybe you’ve felt this way yourself from time to time.
No, a direction is different!
A direction doesn’t ask what you want. It asks where do you want to go and what’s it going to take to get there?
It forces you to think of who you’ll need to become along the journey, and instead of focusing on the end point, it focuses on the journey itself.
Ralph Waldo Emerson knew it when he said “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey”.
Well, it’s not the goal or the outcome, it’s the direction.
And tomorrow, I’m going to show you how all of this culminates into an undeniable pathway to success!
But before I do, what direction do you want to go?
To your success,
Nate
