Have you ever had one of those moments where you just didn’t feel like doing the thing? You know, one of the moments of hesitation where you try to talk yourself out of it?
Maybe it was that moment of hearing your alarm go off, and just wanting to hit the snooze.
Or maybe it was when you’d already rolled out of bed and just didn’t feel like lacing up your gym shoes and hitting the gym.
Maybe you’ve got an injury and said to yourself that you should just “let your body rest”.
Or maybe, like the last few mornings here in Wisconsin, you saw that the temperature was -33˚ F, and you felt it would be better to stay warm then test your will against the cold.
I’ve experienced each of those feelings this week and many other weeks throughout my life, and nearly every time I just say screw it and do it anyway.
I don’t say that to brag. It’s a gift that was bestowed upon me by the Marine Corps and it’d be dishonorable to waste it.
But tonight’s moment of hesitation was a bit different.
Because tonight, I hesitated in writing this. Not because I didn’t want to do it, but because I’d already completed a ton of writing today.
This new voice wasn’t telling me I didn’t need to so I could give myself a break.
It was trying to convince me that I’d already done enough. That the day I’d just spent writing a series of other documents had already met my quota for the day. I’d punched the clock, put in the reps, and had done the work.
But this, these reflections aren’t a resource that’s being created. They’re not a clock to be punched.
These reflections are a commitment. A commitment I made to you, and a commitment I made to myself.
After reading the last few days worth of content, I’m guessing you know what direction not writing would have taken me in.
That’s not a direction I want to go.
So I’m doing it anyways!
Which direction will you go and what do you need to do anyway?
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
