Day 044 - On The Transitional Moments At Work

Tuesday, February 13, 2024

What are the transitional moments you experience at work?

As I’d highlighted in Reflections 042 and 043 transitional moments are everywhere.

They occur when you first wake up in the morning and you transition from sleep to wake.

They happen at meal times.

They happen after meal times.

They happen when you transition away from work at the end of the day, and they happen as you transition into heading off to bed.

As a Marine, a salesman, and an athlete I’ve always been cognizant of “game time” transitions.

Those transitions when it’s “time to put your game face on” so to speak.

In the military and in sport those moments are evident.

At a certain point you go from consciously preparing yourself to it happening instinctually. It becomes a part of you.

But in work, it doesn’t always seem to be the same.

Maybe it’s because the work environment lacks the definitive boundaries that exist in the military and in sport.

Especially if, like me, you work from home and the lines between work and home are blurred.

Although I found this existed even back when I worked for a corporation.

The fact of the matter is that transitional moments exist, but most of us fail to truly identify them.

The simplest ones are transitioning into work for the first time within your day.

Transitioning from one project or task to the next.

Transitioning into or out of a sales call.

Transitioning into or out of creator mode.

Transitioning into or out of coaching mode.

Transitioning out of work mode and into family/dad/husband mode when the day is done.

The harsh reality is that if we don’t learn to recognize the transitions, take control, direct our minds, learn, adapt, and iterate, the transitions will control us rather than the other way around.

I’m working hard to recognize and own my transitions.

Are you?

Death - Before - Dishonor

To your success,

Nate
