What would happen if everyone in the world was recognized to have the same level of value?
No one person being labeled as better than another.
Imagine how different the world would be if that were the case.
I won’t go so far as to say that there would be no wars, racism, criminal acts, etc, but the world would certainly be a different place.
And while the sixth key assumption of NLP doesn’t quite go that far either, it does bring a very interesting point to light.
The sixth key assumption of NLP is:
The positive worth of the individual is held constant, while the value and appropriateness of internal and/or external behavior is questioned.
That means that through the lens of NLP someone who committed atrocities against humanity has the same positive worth as an individual as Mother Teresa.
It means that customer you hate, or ex-spouse you despise, has just as much positive worth as you.
The point and purpose is that through the lens of NLP the person is never judged.
However, the value and appropriateness of their internal and/or external behavior is what’s questioned.
Here’s a simple example to emphasize the point:
Have you ever heard the story of how Newton discovered the speed of light?
The short version is that he imagined himself riding on a beam of light and shining a flashlight at himself riding another beam of light.
Considering that this happened inside his mind it was purely a hallucination, but whether it was a hallucination or not, it guided us to a vast number of scientific discoveries.
However, there are also a vast number of people locked up in insane asylums who imagine themselves riding all kinds of things.
The value of the two is the same. The value of their internal and/or external behavior is what’s questioned.
As you Reflect on this key assumption, how does it change the way you view the world and those around you?
Just something to Reflect on.
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
