Day 055 - On Knowing The Way Broadly

Saturday, February 24, 2024

There’s a phrase I picked up from Jocko Willink and I believe he got it from Musashi.

”When you know the way broadly you will see it in all things.”

Jocko’s this way with his military leadership, jujitsu, and I’m sure a great number of other things.

He can relate military leadership and/or jujitsu to just about anything.

I’m that way with sales, coaching, leadership, nlp, soccer, and parenting to name a few.

But there’s another phrase I like to Reflect on that really brings meaning to the phrase.

And it comes from W. Clement Stone. It’s “You must relate, assimilate, and use that which you learn”.

If you don’t relate the information, you won’t see how it can be applied in various contexts. You won’t generalize the information which is key to learning.

If you don’t assimilate, you’ll struggle to organize and put two and two together.

And, if you don’t use the information then it will never add any value to your life.

It’s kinda the way that it is with our success philosophy and the various ways people get stuck within the process.

If you don’t direct your mind, you’ll just wander aimlessly. And like the phrase goes “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.”

If you don’t take what you’ve learned and adapt in order to improve, accelerate, or change direct when needed, you continue doing the same thing you’ve always done.

And if you don’t iterate, you wont end up taking any action. You’ll direct you mind, adapt to a new circumstance and then just fizzle out.

Without action, nothing happens. Without action, learnings can’t be applied, adaptation won’t get leveraged, and change won’t take place.

When you know the way broadly, you’ll see it in all things.

What areas do you know broadly and how are you seeing that everywhere you look?

Death - Before - Dishonor

To your success,

Nate
