Are you a fan of magic?
If you are, you’ve likely heard of sleight of hand or misdirection.
I had a friend growing up who was amazing at it.
He was so good, in fact, that he was hand selected and spent a few years apprenticing under David Copperfield.
He was a master at sleight of hand, and brilliant at figuring out other people’s tricks.
I remember asking him once how he did it, and he shared with me the painstaking hours it took to break down someone’s trick.
He’d spend weeks doing video analysis to figure out how the magic created their misdirection.
Then, he’d spend weeks practicing the trick every chance he got.
Once he had it down, he’d take it out and test it in public.
Perfecting his misdirection every time.
He’d get to the point he was so good crowds would gather, and they’d grab their friends to watch too.
But misdirection is a trick. It’s getting you to look or focus in one direction while something else is happening in the other.
It’s something we enjoy for entertainment purposes, but it’s not something you want to have happen in your life.
You want to focus in the direction you want to go, not misdirected and losing momentum.
When you allow misdirection to creep into your life, you get lost, and it feels like life plays a trick on you.
You think you’re heading in the right direction only to find out you were wrong all along.
The simplest way to avoid misdirection is to a) become aware of it and b) use your Prime Directive as a filter.
When you use your Prime Directive to filter your thoughts and decisions, it acts as a compass to guide you.
It helps you set your direction, and stay on course.
Because without a Prime Directive, you’ll lack direction.
And, without direction, you end up misdirected.
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
