I was reading The Daily Dad the other day and came across this quote on one of the daily pages. Day 47 - Feb 16th for anyone who wants to reference it.
"Most of what we say and do is not essential. If you can eliminate it, you’ll have more time, and more tranquility. Ask yourself at every moment, “Is this necessary?” —Marcus Aurelius
Some of you may not know this. But Marcus Aurelius' Meditations inspired me to write Reflections.
As I Reflected on the quote, I got more and more excited about what I've been sharing.
Here's why...
Most of what we say and do is not essential...
Discovering your Prime Directive is of vital importance. This single sentence is the essence of that.
By discovering our Prime Directive and making it clear. Writing it out. Memorizing it. Making it a part of you. You create a filter within your unconscious.
You activate your RAS (Reticular Activating System). You call out to the cosmos. You create a vibration that resonates through the universe.
It may sound hokey. I used to think so. But it's true!
Getting that clarity and internalizing your Prime Directive empowers you to set Direction.
Direction guides your actions. It sets your course. It focuses on the journey, not the destination.
It helps you remove the non-essential.
If you can eliminate it, you'll have more time, and more tranquility.
Time is the currency of living. The more you remove the non-essential, the more time you'll have.
The more time and clarity you have, the more tranquility you'll experience. Knowing your Prime Directive and setting your Direction gives you these things.
Clarity is power. Time + Clarity = Tranquility.
Remember these three things: time is the currency of living, health is wealth, and clarity is power.
Your Prime Directive sets our Direction and dictates how you spend your time. Or so they should.
The disciplines and habits we use, determine the speed at which we achieve our objectives.
Your success depends on aligning the two.
Your Prime Directive and Direction + Your Disciplines and Habits = Success
Ask yourself at every moment, "Is this necessary?
Knowing this, the loop begins.
We set Direction, and ask, "is this necessary?"
We then go through an OODA Loop (observe, orientate, decide, act) and based on what we learn we Adapt.
Whether that adaptation is a change or more of the same is based on the question - "is this necessary?". In its simplest form;)
We then act. We move. We iterate.
And the process continues as we move along our journey of success.
Marcus Aurelius knew it.
Now it's time to Direct, Adapt, and Iterate!
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
