Have you ever applied more weight to one step vs. another?
You could argue that the way you weigh the importance of things is important.
Hell, in a way, our entire success philosophy is built on it.
Is this thing or action moving you in your intended direction? In a way, that’s weighing the importance of that thing.
You’ll also find it to be true in the Pareto Principle or the 80/20 rule where 80% of the value comes from 20% of the inputs.
But is that the case with Direct, Adapt, and Iterate?
Is your Prime Directive more important than your ability to Direct your mind?
Is your ability to Direct your mind more important than your ability to recognize good from bad? Right from wrong. On course vs. off course.
To take in those learning and apply your past experience so you can improve, Adapt, and overcome?
Is your ability to Adapt more important than your ability to Iterate? Or is your willingness and ability to Iterate, to act the most important step of them all?
I’d love to tell you I’ve found that getting just one of the pieces right would guarantee your success, but I can’t.
Like the OODA Loop I referenced a couple of days ago (Reflections 068), sometimes more will happen in a step. Colonel Boyd referenced how most of the OODA Loop occurs in the Orientate phase of the Loop.
In our loop, if you don’t have your Prime Directive set you could veer off in the wrong direction.
Likewise, if you have your Prime Directive, but can’t focus and Direct your mind you may experience the same thing.
If you have your Prime Directive and Direct your mind, but neglect to learn you’ll never Adapt. If you don’t Adapt you won’t experience growth and won’t be able to make the necessary adjustments when needed.
If you refuse to Iterate nothing will happen. You’ll stay stuck exactly where you are.
A breakdown in the chain will result in either a lack of speed or a lack of progress entirely.
So is there a step that’s more important than the others?
Is there a 20% that will provide 80% of the results?
I’m still Reflecting on this one… If you find out, will you let me know?
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
