Have you ever gotten stuck trying to figure out what to write or say?
As someone who creates daily content it happens to me all the time.
Some people call it writer's block, some refer to it as the curse of the blank page.
For those who record video it’s the subtle blink of the red light flashing back at you.
You see the blank page. You notice the lights gone red and then… Poof!
It’s like the lights go out and suddenly you’re stuck inside your head.
Just you and your thoughts.
The cursor flashes on the screen almost as if it’s daring you to engage your keyboard.
It taunts your ego.
Whether you’re writing a sales email, the next page in your book, or recording a masterclass it happens. You’re trapped inside your head thinking everything and nothing at the same time.
Grasping at thoughts that seem to slip through your fingers like water flowing from a faucet.
But there’s a simple solution to this problem.
It’s clear that we go inside our head. If you could step back for a moment and disassociate, you’d notice that the thoughts are all about you.
What do I say? What should I do? What could I do that would grab peoples attention?
Does this shirt look ok? Is the lighting right?
The “trick” here, if you want to call it a trick, is to stop focusing on yourself and start focusing on the people you serve.
It’s not about you, it’s about that.
But in order to do that, you have to know who specifically it is that you serve.
When you know your Prime Directive, it’s quite easy.
You bring yourself back to who it is that you serve and you ask yourself what would serve them most right now. Next you Direct your mind towards that, Adapt your approach so you’re focused on them and not you, and you Iterate.
But this time, the words flow smoothly because it’s not about you. It’s about them.
Just like it’s not about the destination, it’s the journey.
By iterating through the process, cycling through the loop, you “find your voice” so to speak.
If this is something you’ve struggled with, ask yourself this: Have you been thinking about who your people are and who you serve? Or have you been thinking about you?
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
