Day 006 - On The 9th Vow Of Success

Saturday, January 06, 2024

Do you recall the 9th vow of success from Og Mandino’s - The Greatest Salesman in the World, Part II: The End of The Story that I shared with you a couple of days ago?

Always will I examine, each night, my deeds of the fading day.

As great as the questions are in that passage there’s another passage from within that vow that I’ve been reflecting on. In it, it says:

“Now I can see that the world is a market where everything is marked at a set price and I must stand by my decision, whatever I buy with my time, labor, and ingenuity, whether it be riches, ease, fame, integrity, or knowledge. I must never act like a child who, when he has purchased one thing, regrets that he does not possess another. Since the daily trades that I make for part of my life are difficult to rescind, let me be certain in the future that I am lasting up things of value and permanence for my toil and sweat. The only way that can be done, with certainty, is for me to perform a special exercise, daily, before I surrender to sleep. Always will I examine, each night, my deeds of the fading day.”

The world is a market and time is the currency of living.

How we trade that time, whether it be for riches, ease, fame, integrity, or knowledge… success, family, or keeping our problems is completely up to us.

We choose how we invest our time. We choose how it’s spent!

Reflecting on how we’ve spent our time and how we plan on spending it in the future is key to not ending up like the petulant child who, when he has purchased one thing, regrets that he does not possess another.

Today, my wife and I took time to review our goals and determine the habits that need to be practiced to ensure their attainment.

And, I’ll admit. I had times where I had to admit the reason some of those goes weren’t hit this past year was child like behavior. Purchasing one thing with my team, but wishing I had possession of another.

If you’ve had times that happened to you, what have you done to change that, and how will things be different for you in the new year?

To your success,

Nate
