Have you ever found yourself in a situation and just wished you could change it?
Maybe you found yourself hosting a virtual event where you wanted to have hundreds of people in attendance, and you only have two.
Maybe you look back on your life and wish your parents had been more loving, more supportive, or just altogether different.
Maybe you just lost a big sale, your biggest client, or your business is in trouble.
Oftentimes, the situations we find ourselves in, whether through our own doing or not, are in a way, unchangeable.
The content itself cannot be changed.
Only having two people show up for your event may suck, you can’t go back and change the past, and circumstances may not be what you want them to be.
You can’t always change the context of your situation, but you can change the way you think about it. I.e. You can change the process by which we experience reality.
The first key assumption of NLP states:
“The ability to change the process by which we experience reality is often more valuable than changing the content of our experience of reality.”
Some may think this is just another way of saying to think positively or to be optimistic, but it’s much more than that.
It’s changing adversity to challenge.
Failure to opportunity.
It’s stating that no matter what the situation is, by simply changing the way you think, you can change the way you feel, and therefore what you are capable of doing…
With everything!
It’s a foundational element in first believing that change is possible, and then actually making change happen.
If this isn’t something you’re actively doing today, I’d encourage you to try it.
If you need help with that, let me know.
Either way, start thinking differently about these things and notice what’s different. Then Direct, Adapt, and Iterate!
Death - Before - Dishonor
To your success,
Nate
